BFF – Best Friends Forever
Remember back in high school, heck, grade school, when we would always sign our notes to our closest friend “BFF”? We swore we’d be best friends forever, but we had no idea that life would pull us all in different directions, some of us moving to other states or countries, and thus making that BFF even harder to maintain.
But now that we’re adults, we use BFF less and less, only using it when we truly mean it. Then there are those who say it but don’t really mean it. They think they do, but they don’t. They don’t mean to, well, lie, but they do because they well and truly believe they have what it takes to help maintain the BFF status or they depend on their partner in the BFF relationship to maintain it for them.
I happen to have one that fits the latter category and it weighs on me heavily.
I love my BFF, honestly I do. But sometimes I don’t like my BFF. There are times when he/she can’t see past himself/herself and leaves the maintenance of BFF to me. For the longest time I didn’t mind but now it’s become a burden. Because of that, I’m considering ending the BFF relationship. I hate to do it because (1) I hate to fail and (2) I love him/her but sometimes–sadly–love isn’t enough.
